Shenfield High School

The U'14 girls made hard work of their Quarter Final away at Frances Bardsley School for Girls. On a bitterley cold afternoon with a couple of key players missing they found themselves 2-0 down within the first 20 minutes,

with both goals conceeded at corners. This seemed to fire the girls into action and with encouragement from the sidelines they began to take control of the game, closing down and working for each other. Abbie Rawlins

pulled one back from a corner with a neat finish, before Shannan Drewe was played through by the excellent Sophie Clark after great work by Amy Morton down the left hand side.

The half time whistle came and the girls had managed to come in all square, which would hopefully give them momentum in the second half. In what was a tense second half the scores remained level with Shenfield

spurning chance after chance pressing for the victory. The away side were thankful for an outstanding performance by Maizi Garwood who showed her ability and work rate throughout the game, making tackle after tackle,

covering almost every inch on the pitch.

The game looked to be heading towards extra time until with only 30 seconds remaining Kirsty Jackson played a lovely through ball for Shannan Drewe after more good work by Sophie Clark. Shannan this time kept her nerve

and slotted the ball past the goalkeeper to seal a great comeback win and keep Mr Bennett in a job! The match was a great advert for girls football with some stand out performances, in particular Maizi, Sophie, Amy and Kirsty.

A deserved win for the away side who were much the better side, although they will need to up their game in the forthcoming National Cup Quarter Final.
