Shenfield High School

Congratulations to Evie Clarke and Rianna Smith on winning the Mike Learey Trophy. This award is presented each sports day to the outstanding sporting student of the year and commemorates the ex-Shenfield PE Teacher who passed away in 1998. Aidan Egalton was also nominated for the award having led the school football team for 5 years as Captain which included the U16 Essex Cup football title. Aidan has made huge progress in the football academy and had an excellent attitude to training. Consequently he progressed from the 3rd team to the 1st team and played in the National Cup final win at Notts County! However Evie and Rianna shared the award for achievements that make them amongst the best athletes in their sport in the whole country.

Evie plays football for Arsenal and England at U-17 level. She has represented Arsenal's 1st team ladies squad this season playing with some of the England Lionesses who did the country proud at the recent World Cup. Evie trains with England at St George's Park on a monthly basis and represented England at last summer's U-17 European Championships! Evie represented Shenfield in every U18 girls football fixture despite these elite level commitments and is keen to support the girls Football Academy which will enjoy its inaugural season in 2015-16.

Rianna is amongst the best swimmers in the country. She won the open water national title in 2014 and this summer has qualifies for the national finals in no less than 6 different events. Rianna trains for over 25 hours every week to get to this level and still finds time to represent Shenfield in several different sports. Both Rianna and Evie have also been outstanding A level PE students who always apply themselves to lessons and homework and are indeed a pleasure to teach. They are great ambassadors for Shenfield and excellent role models to the younger students at our school.
