Shenfield High School

Shenfield High School's PE Department were recently identified as one of the Top 30 State schools for sport in the annual 'School Sport Magazine'.
The magazine considers every schools performance in national school sport competitions and have been compiling records for the last 2 years. Shenfield made the top 30 on both occasions having been 20th in 2012-2013 they were 25th in the country in 2013-2014. During the last season the schools teams reached the quarter-finals of no less than 6 national competitions ( 4 football and 2 cricket competitions) with 2 of these teams reaching national semi finals (U15 girls cricket and U19 Football). The highlight of the school calendar was the U13 girls cricket winning the school's 1st national cricket title and 10th national title in the school's history.

This U13 national title sponsored by 'Chance to Shine' which is a charity that promotes cricket in state schools saw the Shenfield girls claim the county and regional titles before winning the national title in September 2014. Special mention must go to Shannan Drewe, Maizi Garwood, Sophie Clarke, Ellen Hoad and Chloe Eastwell who also played in the U13 and U14 girls football teams as well as the U15 girls cricket teams meaning they reached the last 8 in the country in 4 different competitions!

The school also enjoyed several county successes in football, basketball and cricket. Indeed the school reached more Essex finals than any other school in both football and cricket in the season. Shenfield has also seen several ex-students excel in elite sport over the last year. Matt Salisbury enjoyed a brilliant first season with Essex CCC, Frankie Kent is doing very well with Colchester United FC and Ellie Gibbons is playing for TeamBath at netball. Chris Whelpdale is now playing in his 7th year of professional football and now Sean Clare has been selected as 1 of 20 boys from all around the world to play in the Nike Academy group that recently beat Inter Milan U21 4-0.
Head of PE Garry Sapsford remarked, "we are proud of all the students that commit to sport at Shenfield. These students flourish inside and outside the classroom as a result of the lessons learned in the sports arena. Hard work is the secret to the school's sporting success and this comes from the students, their parents as well as the staff who coach the athletes. It will be hard for us to equal the success of the last season but the effort will certainly be matched."
