Shenfield Girls Seal Essex Cup Cricket Double

Shenfield High School has long been known for its reputation for success in cricket and the U13 and U15 Girls squads sort to defend that reputation at the recent Essex round of the National 'Chance2Shine' cricket Cup.
The U13 girls squad competed against 16 other schools were represented in the competition and Shenfield were placed in a strong group along with New Hall and St Martins. Shenfield beat both teams with an over to spare before a comfortable win over Epping St John's. The girls then defeated Hall Mead in the semi final chasing 62 with 1 over to spare. The final was against Honywood where Shenfield were asked to bat first. Erica Hobson and Lucy Edmeades made a superb start. Erica retiring on 22 from only 13 balls. Deniz Soyer and Holly Tanner continued the aggressive batting to leave Shenfield on 100 from 7 overs! Emily Power bowled a brilliant 1st over that removed their Essex county player and conceded only 3 runs. With all the girls then contributing with tight bowling and good fielding Shenfield won by 54 runs to seals their first Essex title.

The U15 girls squad enjoyed a similarly entertaining day at Springfield CC just 2 days later.  The won their group of 4 schools beating all teams comfortably. Sophie Clark and Abbie Rawlins excelling with the bat and Ellen Hoad and Chloe Eastwell the best of the bowlers. The girls faces St Angela's, Newham in the final where captain Poppy Timson led by example retiring on 20 after only 8 balls with Clarke also retiring having scored 22, to help Shenfield to 107 - 3 after 7 overs. Shenfield's bowling was tight enough to restrict St Angela's to 70 to seal the title and claim the double for Shenfield. The girls will go on to the regional finals which Shenfield's U13 girls won last year before claiming the national title in September in 2014. Richard Bennett, the school's Head of Cricket said, "Both squads will be training hard to try and emulate the national triumph of last year. The U15 girls have also made the semi-final of the National hardball cricket competition so we are very excited and proud of the girls achievements and hope they can perform to their potential in the big games ahead."
