Back to back Essex Cups!

After the National success the day before, the squad were joined by 3 other players for the U13 girls Essex Cup final the next day where they met local rivals St Martins at Shenfield Cricket Club. Sophie Clark (46*) and Southcott (28) top scored for Shenfield to help them to a strong score of 134 in 20 overs. Ellen Hoad took 2 early wickets in St Martins reply before a strong partnership of 56 kept St Martins in the hunt. Indeed St Martins needed 8 an over from the last 6 overs when Ellen Hoad was brought back into the attack. She took another 4 wickets with Southcott taking 2 big wickets at the other end. Hoad finished with amazing figures of 6 wickets for just 8 runs to set a new school bowling record. A school record that U15 girls captain Poppy Timson gained only earlier this summer of 6 wickets for 10 runs set in the U15 girls National Cup quarter-final win.

Mr Bennett who coached the team this year remarked, “We are very proud of the girl’s rapid progress and achievements in cricket this year. They love their sport and we love working with them because they are so keen to learn. Essex cricket sent us a letter this week congratulating the girls on their significant recent achievements and this recognition is very nice to receive. We hope many of these girls will go on to represent Essex and continue to enjoy this great sport in the future.”
