Shenfield High School

Shenfield High School progressed to the Semi Final of the U'18 National T20 after beating Leicester Grammar school by 20 runs. Having not got this far in 8 years and not progressed past this stage in the schools history the team put on a magnificent display to run out comfortable victors. Having won the toss and elected to bat on a blistering hot day, Whetstone got his team off to a flyer taking 16 off the first over. Despite losing King and then Kumar who was run out without facing, Ballington and Whetstone kept the scoreboard moving. However when both fell in quick succession including Kullar who struggled the game was firmly in the balance. Shenfield then firmly took the initiative with some excellent batting between Carey and Southcott whp put on a 7th wicket partnership of 78 in 8 overs. Thid meant Shenfield finished with an above par 156-7 in their 20 overs.

Some excellent new ball bowling restricted Leicester to 15-2 after the first 6 overs. Haddon and Jackson showing excellent control of line and length, backed up by some excpetional fielding and encouragement. From here the game was pretty much won with the rate at 12s, however an unecessary interjection from the away team umpire seemed to throw the home side off their game. Despite this Shenfield ran out winners by 20 runs, with Morton the pick of the bowlers finishing with 4-0-16-2.

Shenfield will now play the winners of the The Leys and Norwich School for a place in the East region final.
