Ballington leads his team to National Cup 1/4 Finals

Shenfield travelled to Kent for their 3rd round fixture with Langley Park school for boys. On a beautiful day playing at the picturesque Old Dunstonians Cricket Club Shenfield put in a fantastic alround performance. After losing the toss they were asked to bat on what looked a flat wicket with a big outfield.

They lost Kullar early after a poor call led him to being run out going for a second run. The score was 4-1 and that brought the inform Pickering (61* off 49) to the crease and together with Ballington (67* off 68) they batted beautifully. Batting with real maturity and positive intent they picked the gaps well, running really well between the wickets. The score finished on 146-1 after the allotted 20 overs, a competitive score on a what turned out to be a sluggish wicket.

After a pep talk and a focus on energy and fielding well, the team started brilliantly. Bell and Parry reduced the home side to 1-2 and then Ballington picked up two in two balls leaving them 28-4 after 7.3 overs. The energy seemed to dip after this with the team believing the game was one. The game meandered out with most getting a bowl, Langley Park finished on 112-7 and some way short of their target.

MOM Tom Ballington scored  an unbeaten 67 and took 3-20 off his 4 overs. We now travel to Bedford School, the school in which Alistair Cook attended looking to secure a place in the Semi-Finals for the first time in the schools history.
