Shenfield secure significant scalp

Shenfield High School's 1st XI cricket team were at Felsted School all day last Sunday playing in the National U18 T20 cricket competition. The boys did Shenfield proud playing against 3 of the best private schools in the East of England. They came joint 2nd after beating Ipswich School by 5 runs with a superb team performance. Haris Mahmood was the pick of the Shenfield bowlers taking 5 wickets and Henry Austin lead the batting averages but all players made key contributions during the 3 games. Felsted School won the tournament but Shenfield were the surprise package and showed that cricket is alive and well in some state schools.

The Shenfield U17 boys then went on to beat King John School in the Essex Cup by 130 runs. Charlie Yorke scoring 66 not out from a total of 212 from 25 overs before Year 8 cricketer Tom Ballington took 5 wickets for just 3 runs in a 10 ball spell! These bowling figures have never been matched before in Shenfield's cricket history let alone from a boy playing 4 year groups up! This team also progressed in the National U17 School's Cup and have been drawn away at Westminster School next Friday.
