Shenfield High School

On Tuesday 23rd October 2012  six Primary schools from Brentwood took part in the Essex Schools Under 11 Team football Competition at Shenfield High School , on the 3 G Astro Turf pitches. The afternoon was a great success mainly due to the enthusiasm of the children and the standard of play.

The whole competition was very tightly fought between all the schools that entered . The group positions needed to be decided on goals scored, due to total points , goal difference , and head to head results all being equal.

Eventually , the four semi finalists to emerge were Long Ridings Primary , Shenfield St Mary’s  C of E Primary , St Peter’s Primary and Ingrave Johnstone C of E Primary.

In semi final 1 Shenfield St Mary’s beat Long Ridings 1 – 0 in what was a very close game.In semi final 2 St Peter’s scored twice beating the counter attacking team Ingrave Johnstone 2 – 1.

The two finalists both came from group 2 . They played in an extremely exciting final with lots of quality football and  countless saves being made at both ends. By the end of normal time no one could break the deadlock and the score was 0 – 0 . So, into extra time . This concluded in the same way with the result still standing at 0 – 0. Both teams now had 3 penalties , but they still couldn’t be separated , so onto “sudden death “. After taking 3 more penalties , finally Shenfield St Mary’s emerged as winners  due to St Peter’s hitting the woodwork with their 3rd penalty. What a final !

Finally , well done to all teams who took part in what was a thrilling competition.
