Shenfield High School

The Shenfield Football Academy enhanced its growing reputation by being crowned Essex Colleges Premier League Champions.  The title was sealed thanks to impressive back to back wins over Barking Abbey and Rushcroft to take them out off site of nearest rivals Palmers College.

The academy in only its second year is fast becoming the leading programme of its type thanks to excellent links with Colchester United FC, first class facilities and the support of an outstanding sixth form.

The results against Barking Abbey highlighted the character of the team coming back from 2-0 down and 3-1 down to triumph for 4-3 in a dramatic game that saw goals from Oli Bell, Trevor Kabuchu, Jamie Hansen and Sam Duhig.

The team managed by Mr Sapsford finished the season winning 14 of their 18 league games played scoring 60 goals along the way and Football Academy Director Mr Thomas had this to say about the teams efforts this season.

“In any league it is always the most consistent and hardworking team that come out on top and that optimises what this group is about.  The boys have progressed and improved so much over the season and no would of thought we could win the league after our heavy opening day defeat, just shows how much the boys have improved.”

The football academy now aim to make it an Essex league and Cup double when they take on Harris Academy in the Under 19 County Cup Final on Thursday 16th May at Grays Athletic.
