Shenfield Football Academy Complete Historic Treble

The Shenfield Football Academy marked a meteoric rise to football prominence by sealing an unprecedented treble in only their second season.  Following league winning success in the Essex Colleges Premier Division the Under 19 group added both the Essex Cup and Mid Essex Cup to complete total domination of school football at this age group.

In the Essex Cup Final, played under the lights at Rush Green the home of West Ham United’s Reserves, Shenfield met a very strong Harris Academy School.  In a game that had everything including, a red card for a Harris player, the game being stopped twice for the referee pulling up with cramp and a floodlight failure Shenfield came out 1 -0 winners.  The only goal of the game was scored by player of the season Liam Smith after great work down the left from the influential Lewis Webster.  This was a superb team effort led by captains Joe Heath and Matt Newman, with everybody working hard and this was epitomised by scenes of jubilation that followed the full time whistle.

A week later Shenfield put on a football master class as that set about dismantling Plume in the Mid Essex Cup final.  The team played some scintillating possession football and showed their dominance by taking a 4-0 half time lead with Andy Freeman almost unplayable in attack.  The second half saw Shenfield add a further 3 goals through Stone, Larkin and Howlett to run out 7-1 winners and complete the treble triumph, the first time this has ever been achieved by any school.

The work rate and attitude of these students has been phenomenal and with so many of the group only just starting the school in year 12 the future looks very bright for Shenfield football.
