Shenfield High School Make 13 County Finals in March

Shenfield High School's students have enjoyed another phenomenal year of sporting success culminating with 13 Essex finals for our school teams in March!

Shenfield were represented in 6 Essex basketball finals (more than any other in school in Essex). The U-13 boys, U-16 and U-18 girls were all crowned Essex Champions in 3 thrilling finals (see individual reports) whilst the U-12 and U-13 girls and U-16 boys fell at the last hurdle but can be proud of being Essex basketball runners-up.

There are three Essex Indoor Cricket competitions each year (U-13 boys and girls and U-15 girls) and Shenfield has made every one of these finals at Essex CCC. The U-13 boys play their final after Easter but the girls team both played and won exciting finals. The U-13 girls defeated Hall Mead school who had 2 Essex players in their squad. Poppy Timson, Becky Lawless (captain), Toni and Carly Abbott, Adelle Knapp, Millie Read, Tayla Beard, Abbie Rawlins and Sophie Church all contributed to a win that see's them go on to represent Essex in the south-east England finals in April.

The U-15 girls came back from 16 for 4 after 4 overs to post a score of 82 with Abbie Wallis the star player with the bat scoring 26 not out. St Martins were bowled out for just 21 in their reply as Lucy Lawless ripped through their batting line up. She was also backed up by smart wicket keeping from Autmn Rose and shart fielding from all the team.

The U-14 girls made the Essex Futsal final but lost on penalties to St Martins. At their first ever Futsal tournament the U12 girls clamied their first County title whilst the U-16 boys also won their Essex Futsal title. The U-16 boys also made the last 4 from over 800 schools in the National Schools competition. Despite a dogged fight the SHS rued lack of discipline from set pieces and missed opportunities in front of goal.

The U-15 boys made their respective county football final but lost 3-2 to All Saints school from Dagenham. Despite going 2-1 ahead with 10 minutes to go a strong All Saint came back as SHS did not deal with a set piece and a wonder strike sealed it for the opposition. The goals for SHS came from Chalrie Portway and Kane Adams.

After winning the Brentwood Borough rounds of the Indoor Athletics, the year 8 boys and girls travelled to Southends Garons Park for the county finals. With some spirited performances in both the track and field events the boys finsihed 5th and girls 4th in the county.

Congratulations to all the staff and students who have given up so much time and effort to make this success possible. We look forward to continued commitment in the summer term when we will endevour to continue to show that Shenfield is the leading school in the county for sporting success.
