Under 15 Girls Narrowly Finish as Essex County Runners-Up in Thrilling Final

The cricket season was finally rounded off last week with another county final for Shenfield High School students. After winning the county U17 and U19 titles recently it was the turn of the U15 Girls to try and claim a third title of the year.

Overall the Shenfield High School Under 15 girls put on a spirited performance against a very strong Honywood School team which included 5 county cricketers but just fell short to finish as runners-up.

Fielding first the Shenfield girls bowled too many wides which gave Honeywood a solid platform to build on. Lucy Lawless (4 overs, 1 wicket  for 13 runs conceded)  and Maddy Villiers (4 overs for 14 runs conceded) were the pick of the SHS bowlers with Faye Solkhon also picking up a wicket. After 20 overs Honeywood School finished on 114 for 2 wickets.

In reply the Shenfield batters started off slow and lost early wickets. However, Maddy Villiers (35) and Ria Melvin (22) put on 63 for the 4th wicket to get Shenfield close and set up an exciting finale. Eventually though the SHS girls fell 13 runs short of the 114 runs required to win.  Well done to all the girls involved.

With cricket being such a strength at SHS in 2011-12 the boys and girls can look forward to more indoor cricket through the winter months and a packed summer programme of cricket training and games.
