Shenfield High School

 

 

Shenfield's u12 girls 5-a-side squad qualified for the national 5-a-side finals having won the mid- Essex district competition and the south east regional competition . The national finals were held in derby where 8 other regional winners met for the national title.

Shenfield defeated didcot school in their 1st game with a Chloe eastwell goal. The 2nd fixture  saw them come from 1-0 down to win to win 3-1 with goals from shannon drewe, Sophie nyiro and maize garwood. Shenfield won the group with a 0-0 draw against west bridgeford meaning they played the runners up in group A, Broadstone Middle School, Dorset. Shenfield went 1-0 up with a fine team goal finished first time by Shannon drewe . Broadstone equalised before half time before before Shenfield went 2-1 up with a great goal from Chloe eastwell. With seconds left of the game broadstone were awards a penalty when Eastwell was adjudged to have touched the ball in the box and the game to extra-time.

Broadstone went ahead for the first time with 2 minutes to go and Shenfield were consigned to defeat after drewe's shot came back off the post just before the final whistle. Broadstone went on to win the final against Thomas Telford school.

Shenfield's coach Sharley Smith was very proud of her team who played some excellent football throughout the competition. She remarked, "the girls have done so well to finish 3rd in the country. We were so close to making the final but we will learn a lot from this great experience and look to better this finish in future football competitions".
