Shenfield High School

Facilities

Sports Fields

With over 20 acres of playing fields split over two main areas (near field and far field) SHS Physical Education Department can offer a wide menu of activities all year round. Boasting four football pitches (including one floodlit ATP), two cricket pitches (including one county standard AT wicket), one rugby pitch, one athletics track, throwing and jumps area and upto eight rounders pitches enables all pupils enjoy broad experiences in PE.

3G Astro-Turf and 4 Changing Room Pavillion

Ten years of fund raising and developing strong relationships with Hutton FC and the Football Foundation led to this fantastic £1.3m facility finally being developed. The full size football pitch is fully equipped with state of the art 3G pitch technology, floodlights and 7-a-side sub pitches which allows teaching and fixtures to be undertaken all year round regardless of the weather or light. The pavilion boasts four changing rooms, a classroom work area and kitchenette. The pitch was opened in June 2010 by Hope Powell CBE the England Women’s National Football Coach. After winning two National Futsal in July 2010 the respective teams were visited by local hero Sir Trevor Brooking who presented the trophy on the new pitch.

Sports Hall

If you came to SHS in the recent past to play a competitive fixture then you will remember our infamous green floor which did not allow any for any grip. Despite this, the old floor still helped SHS achieve two national basketball titles and two national Futsal titles along with endless county basketball, indoor football and indoor cricket titles.

However, in the Summer of 2010 work began on a new Olympic grade sports hall floor. As well as allowing for high-level basketball and netball fixtures to be played, the sports hall also has five badminton courts and provides a quality surface for PE lessons.

Gymnasium

Cardio-Vascular/Strength Training Fitness Suite
This multi-functional room is used for Health Related Exercise lessons as well as GCSE and A-Level practicals. The room is fully equipped with eight Concept-2 rowing machines and four cycle ergometers which also fold away to provide space for dance, aerobics and circuit training.

Swimming Pool

At Shenfield both the students and staff know how lucky they are to have a four-lane, 20m indoor heated swimming pool. From years 7 to 9 all pupils take part in an eight lesson block of swimming with lessons developing from basic water competency, to water polo, to personal survival. The pool is also used for GCSE lessons allowing pupils to be assessed in a wider variety of activities. Finally, SHS often hosts regoinal swimming galas.
